The natural disaster situation in China is complex and severe, and extreme weather and climate events frequently occur.

1. Wenchuan earthquake (2008)

The Wenchuan earthquake was the most powerful earthquake in China since the founding of the People's Republic of my country. The directly and severely affected area reached 100,000 square kilometers, including county towns within 50km of the epicenter and large and medium cities within 200km. As a result of the disaster, 69,227 people died, 17,923 people were missing, and 374,000 people were injured; 7.967 million houses collapsed, 24.543 million houses were damaged, and the direct economic loss was 852.309 billion yuan.

2. Severe typhoon "Hagupit"

"Hagupit" made landfall on the coast of Chencun Town, Dianbai County, Guangdong Province at 6:45 a.m. on September 24, 2008. The maximum wind force in the center was 15 (48m/s) when it landed. It caused a total of 15.019 million people (times) in Guangdong, Guangxi, Hainan and Yunnan to be affected to varying degrees, and 47 people died (including missing persons). The affected area of crops was 8.791 million hectares; 41,000 houses collapsed; the direct economic loss due to the disaster was 13.33 billion yuan.

3.Southern snow disaster

Since January 3, 2008, a wide range of natural disasters such as low temperature, rain and snow, and freezing have occurred in China. China's 20 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) including Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui, Jiangxi, Henan, Hubei, Hunan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Chongqing, Sichuan, Guizhou, Yunnan, Shaanxi, Gansu, Qinghai, Ningxia, and Xinjiang are all affected by low temperature, rain and snow, and freezing disasters to varying degrees. The direct economic loss due to the disaster was 151.65 billion yuan.

4. Xinjiang Turpan strong wind

On February 28, 2007, Turpan, Xinjiang was hit by a strong wind. The instantaneous maximum wind force reached 14 (41.8 m/s). As a result, the windows of the 5807 train from Urumqi to Aksu were smashed by flying sand, and 11 carriages were blown over at once. , 4 people died and more than 1,000 people were stranded.

5. Heilongjiang flood disaster

On June 10, 2005, some areas in the upper reaches of the Shalan River in Shalan Town, Ning'an City, Heilongjiang Province suddenly fell with a heavy rain that was once in 200 years. This rainstorm has high precipitation intensity, short duration, concentrated rainfall, and rapid disasters. The average rainfall is 123.2 mm, and the rainfall at high points is 200 mm. Large flash floods were triggered, the slopes were strongly scoured, and a large amount of soil and water was lost. The river overflowed the embankment and flooded the Shalan Town Central Primary School and a large number of houses. The worst hit was the Shalan Town Central Primary School. The maximum water depth in the school district was more than 2 meters. At that time, 351 students were in class, resulting in heavy casualties of 117 people. (including 105 primary school students), the economic loss reached more than 200 million yuan.

6. Yunnan Drought

In 2010, Yunnan suffered a rare province-wide catastrophic drought. The wide range, the long duration, the deep degree and the huge losses were all rare in the history of Yunnan Province. Most of Yunnan, western Guizhou, and northwestern Guangxi have reached extreme drought levels, especially in Chuxiong City, where more than 200,000 rural people are short of water.

7. Northern snow disaster

On November 9, 2009, there was a rare snowstorm in Shandong, Shanxi, Henan, Hebei, Beijing, and Shaanxi, China. Among them, 9.622 million people were affected and 32 people died due to the disaster (excluding traffic accidents), 166,000 people were detained and resettled on evacuation roads, and crops were resettled. The affected area was 295.3 thousand hectares, more than 15,000 houses collapsed, and the direct economic loss due to the disaster was 6.96 billion yuan.

8. Super Typhoon "Likima" No. 1909

Generated at 9:00 on August 4, 2019 in the ocean east of the Philippines. "Likima" landed on the coast of Wenling City, Zhejiang Province. When it landed, the maximum wind force near the center was 16 (52 m/s), and the minimum pressure at the center was 930 hPa. 14,024,000 people were affected, 66 people died and 4 people were missing, and 2,097,000 people were urgently relocated; 15,000 houses collapsed and 133,000 were damaged to varying degrees; the affected area of crops was 1,137,000 hectares, of which 935,000 hectares had no harvest; direct economic Loss of 51.53 billion yuan.

9. Forest fire

At 18:26 on March 30, 2009, a forest fire broke out in Muli County, Liangshan Prefecture, Sichuan Province. On the afternoon of March 31, a total of 689 commanders and fighters and local firefighters from the Liangshan Prefecture Detachment of the Sichuan Forest Fire Brigade launched a rescue operation in the virgin forest at an altitude of more than 4,000 meters. During the fire fighting operation, affected by the sudden change of wind and wind direction, there was a sudden explosion of combustible gas in the forest, resulting in the sacrifice of 27 forest firefighters and 4 local cadres and the masses.

10. Huge landslide disaster in Shuicheng, Guizhou

At about 21:20 on July 23, 2019, a huge landslide occurred in the Chagou Formation of Pingdi Village, Jichang Town, Shuicheng County, Liupanshui City, Guizhou Province. The landslide volume is about 2 million square meters, causing nearly 1,600 people to be affected, 43 people dead, 9 people missing, more than 700 people urgently transferred and resettled, more than 600 people in need of emergency living assistance, more than 100 houses collapsed, more than 2,300 rooms damaged to varying degrees, and direct economic losses 190 million yuan.
